Gujarat is the first state to privatize the ports sector. The rate at which this sector is developing in the state is exemplary. In Information Technology too, the state is a front ranker. The administration is made more effective and speedy through e-governance, making settlement of issues faster. Agricultural Export Zones (AEZs) are being set up. Gujarat holds promise of laying the foundation for biotechnology, bio-informatics and industrial biotechnology.

People use LPG in towns and coal and wood as fuel in villages. The government is laying a gas-grid in the state to provide on-tape gas to households, to be linked to onshore gas fields and two LNG Terminals being set up at Dahej and Hazira.

Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) has embarked on oil and gas exploration under NELP in new fields in collaboration with Multi-National Corporations. The LNG production in new fields is likely to begin in December 2003.
