Swayam Sevak of R.S.S. since childhood; Mr. Vala entered into public life when he was just a school boy. He was interested in the problems of his school friends and started taking leadership. He became Gymkhana Secretary of Dharmendrasinhji Collage where he studied.
He believes in mass contact. He listens the problems of the people patiently. He thereafter solves the problems if it is within his reach or tries hard and make all possible efforts to solve it or guides properly. He has soft corner for downtrodden. Mr. Vala in turn gets the place in people's heart by his warm, affectionate, docile and courteous attitude.
He is associated with SHRI RAJKOT NAGRIK SAHAKARI BANK. Since 1971-72, a leading Co. operative Bank in India. He remained the Chairman of the said Bank from 1975-76 to 1981-82 and again from 1987-90. He is committed to work, never lose his spirit and temper after working for long hours. He is popular among customers and staff members of the Bank because of his humble and friendly attitude. He has profound knowledge of working of Co-operative Societies and has also wide experience of banking administration.
During emergency i.e. in 1975 he was jailed for 11 months.
He had been MUNICIPAL COUNCILOR of Ward No.6 of Rajkot City since 1975. He was a Chairman of Recreation and Social Welfare Committee. He can be seen in DIARAS – a traditional programme of folklore's and music - for late hours. He rendered remarkable service in the field of Social, Cultural and Literacy activities and became popular to Rajkot City people. He became MAYOR in February-1983. He was elected as M.L.A. from Rajkot-2 constituency in 1985 for the first time.
Mr. Vajubhai did excellent work during water crisis in 1986. As a Mayor and as a M.L.A. he vigorously represented the case before the State Government and make arrangements of water for Rajkot City from various Dams near and far from Rajkot. He fought with the odd circumstances and kept his promise given to the people of the City that no one would have to leave the city for want of water.
He was a member of Rajkot City Civil Supplies Advisory Committee and Gujarat State Road Transport Authority Committee. Mr. Vala was elected as M.L.A. from Rajkot-2 constituency in 1990 for the second time.
Earlier as an M.L.A. he was included as a member of Budget Committee of Gujarat State Assembly. He became first time Urban Development Minister in Government of Gujarat in 1990 for the first time however for short duration. But he worked hard and did justice to the portfolio allotted to him.
He was elected as M.L.A. for the third time by the people of Rajkot City and the people of Gujarat got an able, efficient and hard working Statesman who held the portfolios of ENERGY, PETROCHEMICALS, FINANCE and REVENUE.
Mr. Vajubhai did excellent work as Revenue Minister in drought. He also worked hard as Revenue, Finance Minister during earth quake relief work etc.
He again took oath of office and secrecy on 13-12-2006 and was assigned the portfolio of Finance. On 23-2-2007 he presented Budget for twelfth time in the State Assembly and created a record.
During the Empowered Committee meeting on VAT at Delhi he took active part and made efforts to see that businessmen would have to face fewer difficulties on effective implementation of VAT.
He has been awarded THE BEST CITIZENS OF INDIA AWARD 2006 by International Publishing House, New Delhi. In the political & Social field, he is the only person of the Gujarat State, who has been selected for this award.
Shri Vajubhai has been facilitated with the award "Bharat Gaurav Award" by India International Friendship Society, New Delhi on 9th June, 2007 on the occasion of Economic Growth and National Integration Seminar held at Mumbai.
In Bharatiya Janata Party manifesto a promise was given to the people of Gujarat to abolish octroi from the State. The Government to implement this promise formed a Committee under the chairmanship of Shri Vajubhai Vala. The Committee had detail discussions with the respective Chamber of Commerce & Industries and with the Mayors / Commissioners of the Municipal Corporations. Thereafter the Government took a historic decision that octroi would be removed from the Municipal Corporations of the State from 15-11-2007 ( LABHPANCHAM ) to lessen the hardship.
Now from 4-1-2008 he has been assigned the charge of Finance, Labour & Employment Department.
By extensive and deep reading Mr. Vala is in good command over the language. He immediately understands the presentation of the other party. He makes tense situation light by his humorous & jolly nature nature. He discusses the matter of large public interest with the journalist and also runs lovingly to greet the kids from his chair.
