SEZs – Special Economic Zones are engines of growth and Gujarat was amongst the first states to put SEZ Act in place as early as 2004. Today, as many as 33 SEZs have been approved in the state, of which two are fully functional and others are in the process of development.
Though in terms of numbers, Gujarat has only 33 SEZs, in terms of overall area for SEZs Gujarat leads – and has hence emerged as the SEZ capital of India.
The recent Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit witnessed massive investments in these SEZs and since most of these SEZs are manufacturing driven, they offer a tremendous employment generation potential.
