Jay Narayan Vyas possesses diverse qualifications - Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), Master of Technology (Civil), Post-Graduate in Marketing Management and a Bachelor of Law. As professional, he is attached to, and actively involved with Institutions of Engineers India, Calcutta (Fellow) and Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) Ahmedabad (as Life Member).

Shri Vyas has served in past as member of Consultative Committee on NRI matters, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India; member, Nodal Officer's Committee, Ministry of Finance, Government of India; Member Secretary, Task Force for overseeing safety measures in industrial units manufacturing hazardous chemicals; member, Economic Affairs & Industrial Policy Sub-Committee of Confederation of Indian Industry; member, Infrastructure Panel, CII and many more.

A noted water management expert Shri Vyas has a unique distinction of being invited to prestigious Club of Tokyo by Japan Foundation. He has participated in the 2nd World Water Forum at the Hague in March 2000. He also was one of the three recipients of International Commission on Large Dams Award 2003 for his contribution.

Widely travelled abroad, he writes regularly in mass media on diverse subjects. In his public life, he has served the Government of Gujarat in various ministerial capacities such as Minister for Narmada & Civil Supplies, Minister for Narmada and Major Irrigation Projects and also as chairman of premier state PSUs like – Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited.

At present he is the Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Tourism, Devasthan, Pilgrimage Development, Voluntary Organisations and Non Resident Gujaratis of Gujarat Government.

He has authored many books pertaining to industry, foreign trade, capital market etc.
