The Chief Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi said that ‘Garib Kalyan Mela' is like an Open University educating the poor to fight against poverty.
Government Schemes and Treasury would surely set a poor free from the jaws of poverty – A poor should have such a confidence, he added.
Gujarat's 21st ‘Garib Kalyan Mela' organized at Nadiad, for the six Talukas of Kheda District – Thasara, Kathalal, Virpur, Balasinor and Kapadvanj. Nadiad, Shri Narendrabhai Modi distributed tool-kits worth Rs.94.25 Crores to as many as 42453 beneficiaries.
He expressed his firm resolve and appealed to not to respond any mediators. He also mentioned about bank loans worth Rs.400 Crores, granted to various Sakhi-Mandals for the upliftment of the economically backward families of rural Gujarat.
He said that a list of beneficiaries is to be kept at every village, and as villagers are familiarized with everybody of the village, misuse of the help will be prevented. He suggested writing a post-card to him if one receives inferior quality material as Government-aid. The Government will surely take stern actions in such cases, he added.
He regretted the Centres move of terminating various welfare schemes and mentioned about Gujarat's initiative in taking effective measures against poverty.
Greeting a large number of people, he said that ‘Garib Kalyan Mela' has shown a path for eradicating poverty. No parent wants to give poverty as inheritance. Not Vote-Banking but Empowerment of the poor – is the objective of the mission of ‘Garib Kalyan Mela'.
He said that the Government is ready to help – but the desire on the part of the poor is what is needed. Rather than wasting his time in begging, a beggar should take benefits of the Government Schemes and reshape his life.
He expressed his desire to develop ‘Swarnim Nagar Vasahat' with adequate infrastructure, for the homeless poor. He also mentioned about electricity providence even in village huts along with 108-emergency ambulance service.
Revenue Minister, Smt. Anandiben Patel mentioned about the benefits delivered under the ‘Vidhya-Lakshmi' scheme and ‘Narmada Bond'.
Minister of State, Shri Fakirbhai Vaghela mentioned about 1500 Crores worth of benefits to be distributed during ‘Garib Kalyan Mela' and admired the vision of Shri Narendrabhai Modi.
Parliamentary Secretary - Shri Sundarsinh Chauhan, District Panchayat President of Kheda District-Shri Rakesh Rav, and MLA of Nadiad-Shri Pankajbhai Desai addressed the Mela.
Parliamentary Secretary-Shri Yogeshbhai Patel, Shri Ambalal Rohit, Chairman of Gujarat Rajya Mahila Ayog – Smt.Lilaben Ankoliya, MLA of Matar-Shri Devusinh Chauhan, District BJP President-Shri Sureshbhai Bhatt, Government officers along with dignitaries attended the event.
